Oscar Siles Brügge completed his MPhys in Chemical Physics at the University of Sheffield in 2012, followed by a PhD at the same institution. His research project focused on the contact mechanics of non-polar surfaces at the molecular scale. In 2017, he joined the School of Chemistry at the University of Nottingham as a Teaching Associate in Physical Chemistry and was promoted to Assistant Professor in 2020 and Associate Professor in 2025. He is a Senior Fellow of Advance HE.
As Course Director of the Institute of Physics accredited Chemistry and Molecular Physics degree programmes, Oscar oversees collaborative efforts between the Schools of Chemistry and Physics in supporting students’ learning journeys and delivering outstanding multidisciplinary teaching. His continued commitment to quality of teaching has been recognized with a School of Chemistry Teaching Excellence Award in 2022 and two University of Nottingham Lord Dearing Team Awards for Teaching and Learning in 2021 and 2023. In 2024 he was jointly awarded the Royal Society of Chemistry Team Prize for Excellence in Higher Education as a member of the Laboratory Development Team.
