Dr Andrew Nortcliffe is Associate Professor of Medicinal Chemistry at the University of Nottingham . His work bridges academic excellence, pedagogical innovation, and global collaboration, with a particular focus on preparing students for careers in the pharmaceutical sciences. He has led transformative initiatives in teaching and curriculum design, earning multiple awards for excellence in education. Andrew has spearheaded the School of Chemistry’s “Industry-Ready Graduates” strategy. His partnerships with organisations such as GSK, DNDi, and ChemAI ensure that students gain real-world experience and develop the skills needed for global careers in drug discovery and development. A cornerstone of Andrew’s impact is his leadership within Open Synthesis Network, a global active-learning initiative that connects educators and students across continents to advance medicinal chemistry education. Through this network, he fosters international collaboration, sharing best practices and co-developing educational activities that reflect the evolving needs of careers in medicinal chemistry. Within the School of Chemistry, Andrew is the Pedagogical Lead for Organic and Biological Chemistry. A Senior Fellow of Advance HE, Andrew continues to mentor educators and champion teaching excellence across the sector. His work sets a benchmark for international leadership in medicinal chemistry education, inspiring collaboration, innovation, and inclusion worldwide. In 2024, he was awarded the Royal Society of Chemistry Team Prize for Excellence in Higher Education as a member of the Laboratory Development Team.
